Standing in The Garden of Eden

When first I saw her, at the stroke
The heart of nature in me spoke;
The very landscape smiled more sweet,
Lit by her eyes, pressed by her feet;
She made the stars of heaven more bright
By sleeping under them at night;
And fairer made the flowers of May
By being lovelier than they.
(George Edward Woodberry)

The backdrop to this photograph is based upon Joseph Urban's design of 1917 for: "Miss"
The Model is Naomi Johnson - A real 1920's Flapper.

The 19 year old George Gershwin (Jacob Gershowitz) was working as rehearsal pianist for the show which ran for a mere 72 performances. Although not connected with the Follies; 1917 saw, possibly, his first commercial success with a novelty rag 'Rialto Ripples'. It would be another 7 years before the release of 'Rhapsody in Blue'.

Limited Edition of 100 Centenary Prints

The photo is supplied in a 10 by 8 cream mount as standard ready for framing and bears the Centenary Seal in the lower right hand corner. Up to 100 centenary prints of this size will be released sequentially.
